Abstract

From 2005 to 2010, online video grew at a phenomenal rate of 910%, yet the majority of videos shared have been in their raw, unedited format.  The barriers of cost, complexity, and required computing resources have stood in the way. WeVideo is the first to conquer this and deliver a full-featured, social video editor over the Internet and in a SaaS model. In our presentation, we will provide insights into how we are harnessing technology in new and innovative ways to deliver “eye-popping” advantages to users.  We will discuss our patent-pending technology and architecture and how we have grown WeVideo from a little company in Norway serving the K-12 education market to THE Company transforming online video editing.  

Technical and  functional advantages of our approach: 

• Real-time. Real-time multi-layer playback in the browser without rendering time. 

• Social editing. Video editing in context to groups, projects or events — enabling sharing of clips and social editing within the community. 

• Performance. Harnessing of low-end servers through proprietary parallelization technology to render editing jobs across distributed servers and CPU cores. 

• Flexibility. One rendering code across devices (web, tablet, mobile and TV), as well as the technology tier (client- and server-side).

• Creative freedom. Easy-to-use drag and drop environment or WeVideo Wizard environment for a fully automated experience.  

• Export quality. From 360p to 1080p HD.

Jostein Svendsen

Founder and CEO

Jostein Svendsen is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of WeVideo.   Based in Oslo, Norway, and Silicon Valley, Jostein is a highly regarded serial entrepreneur in both Europe and North America, having founded and grown several successful companies in digital media, digital financial services and digital commerce. Jostein founded two of Norway’s leading multimedia and Internet companies, both of which went on to become successful publicly traded issuers in Sweden – one employing more than 2,000 people across the globe.

In 2002, Jostein helped launch a new credit card and savings bank in Norway, which quickly became the first branchless/online-only bank in the Norwegian market. The bank was acquired by Banco Santander in 2005.
