In this seminar we will learn Ajax from the ground-up. We will look at the motivations and history of Ajax. We will learn about the fundamentals behind Ajax including JavaScript, DHTML, and XML. We will also briefly look at the "back-end" of an Ajax service. We will look at some of the common design patterns used with Ajax and some of the common problems. Finally we will look at several popular JavaScript frameworks that can make Ajax development easier including Prototype, Dojo, DWR, and the Google Web Toolkit.

About the Presenter
Michael Galpin is an architect at eBay, specializing in presentation technologies. While at eBay he has worked on numerous projects including eBay Neighborhoods, the next generation of MyEbay (currently in public beta), and with the eBay kernel term creating the presentation infrastructure that powers the eBay site. Michael has been working in web development for more than ten years, and prior to eBay he worked at some startups in Silicon Valley. He is a frequent writer for IBM's developerWorks site, and has also written for TheServerSide.com and the Java Developer's Journal.
