Electronic publishing of product information on the Web is expected to eventually replace the use of printed datasheets for electronic components. In this talk, we describe the Component Advisor, an on-going research project at HP Labs in extracting structured, parametric information about electronic components from datasheets published on the Web. The project is conducted as part of the Web Content Mining research effort at HP Labs, whose goal is to build intelligent Web mining agents.
Mei is currently a department manager at HP Labs, leading the work in the area of data mining technologies and solutions. Prior to joining HP in 1997, Mei had been a manager at EDS's management consulting service division (1994-1997), the chief architect for workflow systems at Digital Equipment Corporation (1990-1994), and a Professor in Computer Science at Harvard University (1983-1990). Mei received her B.A. from National Taiwan University, M.S. from University of Massachusettes at Amherst, and Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from M.I.T. She has widely published in the area of database systems and transaction processing.
