The automotive industry is rapidly electrifying, and electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming mainstream. At the same time, vehicles are getting smarter, with autonomous systems and advanced connectivity transforming how we think about transportation. Similarly, transformational changes are occurring in the electric power sector at an unprecedented rate to balance the ever-increasing demand from electrification and AI Data Centers with increasing centralized and distributed renewables, via an intelligent grid. Both sectors rely heavily on semiconductors for power management, energy conversion, and communication. However, these sectors are also increasingly dependent on distributed and decentralized computing to manage the complexity of their operations. Whether managing fleets of autonomous vehicles or balancing the power grid, the future relies on the seamless integration of semiconductor technologies and AI at the edge. The power, automotive, and semiconductor sectors face challenges: reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency, and managing increasingly complex systems. Distributed and decentralized AI and advanced semiconductors are essential to overcoming these challenges. These innovations underscore the need for cross-industry collaboration. By sharing knowledge and resources, we can develop solutions that advance all sectors, whether smarter EVs or grids that dynamically adapt to energy demands.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Sunil M. Chhaya is a globally recognized leader in clean energy, grid modernization, and advanced transportation systems, with over 30 years of pioneering contributions to sustainable technology innovation. As a Senior Technical Executive at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Dr. Chhaya oversees transformative projects in electric vehicle (EV) integration, grid services, and cybersecurity, managing several multimillion-dollar projects. His work has shaped the creation of EV infrastructure cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST IR8473 and the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) platform company, such as ChargeScape LLC—a collaborative venture with Ford, BMW, Honda, and Nissan that deploys V2G capabilities at scale for commercial deployment.

Dr. Chhaya’s PhD work was on AI applications. His extensive background spans critical roles with General Motors, where he was a key technical contributor to EV and hybrid powertrain systems and led advanced EV powertrain system and software engineering work, and with Strategy& (PwC Network), where he advised global corporations on technology roadmaps and strategic sourcing. His expertise in aligning technology with market needs has been instrumental in securing high-profile public funding for clean energy and transportation projects. A thought leader with multiple patents, Dr. Chhaya has contributed to international standards and is widely published on grid resilience, EV infrastructure, and cybersecurity topics.
